Summer has a way of putting your smile front and center: beach trips, graduation parties, family reunions. The camera comes out, the candid moments happen fast, and that bright, confident smile you’ve always wanted suddenly feels more relevant than ever.

We hear it from patients all the time: “I love my smile, but I wish my teeth were just a little bit whiter.” This summer, we have something to change that — and it works faster than you’d think.

Introducing Zoom! Professional Whitening That Actually Delivers

We’re excited to now offer Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed, one of the most effective, clinically proven, in-office whitening systems available. Most patients see results up to 8 shades whiter in a single 60–90 minute appointment. Walk in, walk out, and love what you see.

How Does the Zoom Light Actually Work?

Zoom uses a professional-strength hydrogen peroxide whitening gel applied directly to your teeth. The gel works by breaking down the molecular bonds that hold stains to your enamel. On its own, that process would be slow. What makes Zoom different is its proprietary LED-accelerated light, which is directed at your teeth throughout the treatment. The light activates the hydrogen peroxide molecules, dramatically speeding up the process by which oxygen penetrates the tooth enamel and breaks apart the pigmented molecules responsible for discoloration.

Think of it like this: the gel is the cleaner and the Zoom light is the power switch that turns it from “gentle cycle” to “deep clean.”

“The Zoom LED light doesn’t heat the tooth. It specifically targets the whitening gel, which is why it’s so much more effective than light-free systems.”

This is also what separates Zoom from over-the-counter whitening strips or drugstore LED kits. Those products use much lower concentrations of peroxide, and their light sources aren’t calibrated to activate the chemistry the same way. Professional whitening is engineered as a complete system — and the results show it.

What to Expect at Your Zoom Appointment

Your Zoom appointment runs about 60–90 minutes from start to finish. Here’s exactly what happens:

  1. Prep — We protect your lips and gums with a barrier, leaving only your teeth exposed.
  2. Gel application — We apply the professional Zoom whitening gel to your teeth.
  3. Three light sessions — The Zoom LED light activates the gel in three 15-minute cycles. You’ll just relax — many patients listen to music or a podcast.
  4. Finishing treatment — We apply a sensitivity-reducing treatment and fluoride or hydroxyapatite to protect and remineralize your enamel.
  5. You’re done — You leave with a noticeably brighter smile and a take-home touch-up kit to maintain your results.

How to Keep Your Results Looking Great

Once you’ve invested in a brighter smile, a little mindfulness goes a long way. The biggest factors that affect how long your results last are your diet and your daily oral hygiene routine.

The foods and drinks most likely to restain your teeth after whitening are the usual suspects:

  • Coffee and tea
  • Red wine
  • Deeply pigmented foods (berries, tomato-based sauces, soy sauce, balsamic)
  • Colored candies or heavily dyed foods

We’re not saying give up your morning coffee forever — just be mindful in the first 48 hours after your treatment when your enamel pores are most open, and consider using a straw for staining beverages going forward.

The take-home touch-up kit you’ll receive after your Zoom appointment is also a great tool for refreshing your results every few months. With proper care, professional whitening results can last between 12 and 24 months. For a full breakdown of how to make your results last longer, check out our dedicated guide.

I Have Sensitive Teeth — Can I Still Whiten?

Sensitivity is one of the most common concerns we hear before whitening, and the good news is that for most patients with sensitive teeth, in-office whitening is still absolutely an option. The key is preparation and the right protocol.

Here’s what we typically recommend for sensitivity-prone patients:

  • Pre-treat with a desensitizing gel — In the days leading up to your appointment, we can have you wear a fitted retainer loaded with a desensitizing gel (like Sensodyne ProNamel) or a prescription fluoride gel for 15–30 minutes. Doing this before and after your session helps remineralize and fortify the enamel so your teeth are less reactive to the whitening gel.
  • Post-treatment care — We apply a professional fluoride or hydroxyapatite treatment at the end of every Zoom appointment as a standard part of our protocol. This helps calm any post-treatment sensitivity.
  • Zoom’s built-in desensitizing formula — The take-home touch-up kit includes Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (ACP), Potassium Nitrate, and Fluoride — a combination specifically designed to remineralize enamel, reduce sensitivity, and strengthen teeth alongside the whitening process.
  • Customized approach — In some cases, we may recommend spacing out your sessions or adjusting the gel concentration to suit your comfort level. We’ll talk through everything at your consultation.

“If sensitivity has stopped you from whitening before, please tell us. We have options. We treat it routinely and most patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the process can be.”

Your Questions, Answered

Does whitening damage my teeth?

When performed professionally and with appropriate protocols, teeth whitening does not damage enamel. The hydrogen peroxide gel works by temporarily opening the pores in your enamel to allow oxygen to break up stain molecules. After treatment, those pores remineralize and close — which is exactly why we finish every Zoom appointment with fluoride or hydroxyapatite and a desensitizing treatment.

Multiple clinical studies have found no significant changes to enamel hardness or structure following properly administered hydrogen peroxide whitening. The key is the right concentration, the right exposure time, and the right aftercare. That’s what we’re here for.

Where patients can run into trouble is with overuse of high-concentration products at home, or using cheap over-the-counter systems repeatedly without professional guidance. We’ll always make sure your treatment plan is designed to get you great results without compromising your tooth health.

Is Zoom right for everyone?

Zoom whitening works beautifully on natural tooth enamel. It’s not recommended for crowns, veneers, or bonding — those restorations won’t respond to whitening agents, so we’d want to discuss alternatives. We also evaluate gum health and any active decay before proceeding. During your consultation, we’ll take a quick look and give you an honest recommendation for what’s right for your smile.
